Manchester United Soccer School coaches to return in June

THE Royal Selangor Club () has teamed up with the Singapore-based Man­ches­ter United Soccer School () for their junior development football programme.

football convenor Anthony Tong said the ’ coaching panel, headed by Tony Bryne, con­ducted a clinic for the trainees in the development programme recently.

“We had the opportunity to watch them and were impressed with their coaching programme. So, we invited them for a session with our trainees,’’ said Tong.

A total of 160 trainees, aged between 8 and 16, attended two sessions conducted by Bryne and his three assistants. Bryne also spent about three hours with the ’s 12-member coaching panel headed by Razali Embi.

Tong said Bryne and his men were professional and brought their own equipment from Singapore.

“The trainees enjoyed the training sessions and we received encouraging feedback from the participants as well as their parents,’’ said Tong.

The had initiated the junior development programme about five years ago. The programme catering for five age groups — Under-8, Under-10, Under-12, Under-14 and Under-16 — is held on Sundays at the .

Tong said the programme had brought together the trainees as well as their parents.

“Some of the older players have gained exposure and played for in the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) league. We want to see our juniors play for their schools in age group competitions and eventually the state. We would be happy if some of them get to play for the country,’’ added Tong.

Bryne and his men from will return for a five-day coaching programme in June. The programme will cater for 20 players in each of the age groups — Under-8, Under-10, Under-12, Under-14 and Under-16.
